The Assembly of Concern Niger Delta People (ACNDP) group has said former president Goodluck Jonathan could help bring peace to the Niger Delta region.
President Muhammaudu Buhari has been urged by a socio-political group, Assembly of Concern Niger Delta People (ACNDP) to appoint his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, as special envoy to Niger Delta.

Speaking on the backdrop of threats by militants to continue relentless attacks on oil and gas installations in the region, the national coordinator of the group, Mr Eperemor Governor on Thursday, June 2, said the appointment of Jonathan as an envoy would help ease the situation in the Niger Delta region.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he said that as an indigene of the area, and former governor of Bayelsa, the former president would help to bridge the gap between the region and the federal government.

Eperemor, who condemned the spate of pipeline bombings by the avengers decried that their activities were not only affecting the nation economically but degradation the soil of the region.

He called on members of the group to explore other ways of making their grievances known to appropriate authorities rather than destroying the country`s commonwealth.

Meanwhile, the Defence headquarters has declared a massive war against the new group of militants, Niger Delta Avengers, threatening the peace of Nigeria’s Niger Delta region.

This follows the continued bombing and sabotage of economic assets particularly oil platforms by militants in the Niger Delta.

In a statement last night, June 1, the Defence headquarters vowed that the armed forces will not relent in its efforts to flush out economic saboteurs perpetrating evil in the Niger Delta under whatever name including Niger Delta Avengers.
