Reports emanating from Benin, the Edo state capital, indicate that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state will join Nigeria’s vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and other All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party’s campaign in the state.

The nation reports that the professor and some governors on the platform of the APC will land in the state to officially flag off of the APC gubernatorial campaign of Godwin Obaseki for the election coming up on September 10.

The state chairman of the party, Barrister Anselm Ojezua made this disclosure as they were putting finishing touches on the anticipated visit of the APC stalwart who are expected to arrive on Friday, July 15 ahead of Saturday’s campaign.

Ojezua also stated that mobilisation was in place to get all the Edo people throughout the state for the flag off, stating further that some notable PDP members in the state will decamp to the party during the event.

Reports from the state also have it that security operatives have taken over the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium where the flag off will commence on Saturday as vehicles have been diverted to other parts of the state capital to allow free flow of traffic.

Meanwhile, PDP has fixed August 17 for its national convention to hold in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.

The announcement was made following an expanded national caucus meeting of the party at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Center, Abuja on Thursday, July 14.

Several issues affecting the opposition party were discussed at the meeting and several decisions were taken.
