Governor Olusegun Mimiko and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may not be having a good time now as hundreds of their loyalists have dumped the party and joined the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

More troubling for the governor is the fact that the defectors were led by the special assistant to the governor on political mobilization, Mosunmola Awotula.
Popularly called iron lady, Awotula is known to be a powerful woman and chief mobiliser of people for the PDP.
It is not known the reason she left the party with other core loyalists including the Ayaki of Irele land, Chief Olorunda Ikuemelo, the PDP vice chairman in ward four, Dayo Olajide, Comrade Ademuwagun Fakomogbo, Comrade Soji Olowotimehin, Madam Aderotoye Abike, Akinbamiro Ojuetimi, Olayinka Moyo and Comrade Adebayo Adegoroye.
However, there is said to be a level of fear in the party as the defection comes just when political campaigns for the state governorship election, for which 50 APC members have signified interest, are beginning.
Mosunmola, who spoke for the defectors, called the PDP a party of broken promises inflicting pains on the people of the state.
“We are the strong leaders of the PDP in Irele, I have been a woman leader in ward 2, after that I became organising secretary before Mimiko came to PDP.
“When Mimiko defect to PDP, he rendered us, the executive members useless and refused to carry us along in the scheme of things; that shows that Mimiko is a selfish leader,” she said.
Ikuemelo, another defector, described the PDP as a dilapidated building.
He said the party was almost collapsing and thus needed to be deserted before it would come on them.
He added that Irele local government no longer has any PDP member with their exit and expressed assurance that the APC will win the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The Nation reports that the defectors were received into the APC by the deputy chairman of the party in the state, Engineer Ade Adetimehin.
